SmartKlean Laundry Ball - Best Detergent for Eczema

Have used the SmartKlean laundry ball a few times so far and have been quite pleased with the results. Have not yet done a particularly difficult load of laundry but seems to handle regular loads quite well.

I love it cleans clothes really well and my skin appreciates that there is no residue left on the clothes so no irritation my skin feels so much better

Our baby has severe eczema and we bought this ball to see if eliminating laundry soap would help. It did not improve her symptoms bit we are still happy with the ball and will continue to use it going forward. We particularly appreciate the decreased exposure to chemicals and toxins in laundry soap and the decreased environmental impact. The balls appears to clean well, although it does not work well on stains. The laundry smells and feels comproable to unscented laundry soap.

Have been using SmartKlean Laundry Balls for 5 years now. My husband & I do not have any skin allergies, however I NEVER have to use ANY detergents with ANY of my washes, except if I want to bleach white articles. We are both very active in sports, giving many sweaty 🥵 clothing, and washing them with the Smart ball, mostly in cold water, leaves them clean, no sweat, positively no smell whatsoever! I would highly recommend this amazing product!

I cannot say that it was effective at all. After several months, clothes felt funny and certainly didn’t smell clean. Tried putting it in the sun also. Eventually quit using it. Disappointing.

It is the only laundry detergent I use all other laundry detergent makes me break out. Plus, I love the convenience of being able to leave the ball in the washing machine and not have to think about measuring out soap.

My son must be allergic to something in the ball. After using this, he broke out in tiny, itchy bumps all over. Some of the bumps became red, swollen, ****-filled and started to ooze. We have to re-wash his clothes in plain water and hope the problem subsides. It's never been this bad before and the new laundry ball is the only thing that's different in our routine.

Like many, I was skeptical about this, but we have used it, and it seems to work well! I love that I don't need to run extra rinses in order to get any laundry detergent residue- saves time and money. The only thing is that it says you must use cold water, and I haven't figured out whether I can use hot or not (which is what I have to do every so often to get rid of buildup in our baby's clothes from all the shea butter we use).

For years I've been trying to use the most natural detergents i could find and i still find some to leave scent, residue etc so i'm really happy to have this product. However i too have the question about cold vs hot water. If i use warm or hot will i ruin the product? I believe it cleans most loads well, but we have some fairly stinky dri fit workout stuff that still stinks after washing. I've not tried added washing soda, but i did add an oxy clean based laundry pod and the stink remained. So i love the idea of this product, i think it works well, for the year's worth of washings you get out of it i believe it's a good value, but i'm not sure it's working for all laundry situations.[The Eczema Company response: We're so glad you love the laundry ball. We found with stinky laundry it works well to add four drops of tea tree oil in with the clothes and if possible, do a double rinse. Definitely wash on warm too. Hope this helps!]

I had been using the SmartKlean ball for a couple of years before we had kids and have recently started alternating with soap nuts mostly due to availability more than anything else. I find the same results from both as well. They work well and don't irritate my children's skin. I'll likely keep purchasing both for now.

I've used my laundry ball a handfull of times and it has cleaned my clothes nicely, however, I am curious if anyone else has accidently put their ball in the dryer and if my ball is now ruined? It was wrapped in a blanket and someone through it in the dryer. It was a firework show when I took the ball out of the blanket. Lol! Thank you for your response. I really like this product. I don't know how much it did to help my toddler's eczema because we are still trying to figure out her triggers, but I find that the ball works just as well as traditional detergents, without all the bad stuff in it. The clothes come out clean and smelling like plain clean cotton. I use a stain remover for spots because the ball won't remove that. But this process works for me and I'll continue doing it.

I followed the instructions for cleaning my washing machine with vinegar and have used the laundry ball 5 times. I added the 1/2 cup washing soda as instructed and found that my laundry is clean and soft when placed in the dryer with no dryer cloth. I like this alternative to the supposedly "clear and free" laundry products that have resulted in skin sensitivity. I am pleased with this product so far.

I've been using the Ball for some years, just repurchased a replacement. I appreciate knowing my clothes can be cleaned without detergent. Grateful for the development of this product.

Wow, where has this been for my last 61 years of life? Everyone needs to use this for laundry and get rid of the old idea of detergents. I love, love, love this and will never use anything else.

While I love the smell of laundry detergent I am 100% allergic to the fragrance and I’m sure some other ingredients in it. I switched to the SmartKlean laundry ball and have seen a huge difference my skin. I no longer get hives when I crawl into bed or wrap myself in a blanket, the amount of hives I get from my workout clothes has also decreased significantly, and I would say I am 90% less itchy since making this change. I spent 3 years going through topical steroid withdrawal. While there is nothing but time that can heal you from that, I really wish I bought this laundry ball sooner because I can only imagine how much more comfortable I would have been.

Have used the SmartKlean Ball for several years now, not because of any allergies, but just because of environmental awareness, not having to buy detergent, and they clean our clothes very well. My husband and I are extremely active sportwise, leaving lots of sweaty clothes, and they are always clean, leaving no scents of any bacteria being left on clothes! Best Buy ever, have given them to my grown boys and have told many of my friends and they too have switched to the SmartKlean balls!

I didn’t notice a difference in my skin. It seemed to clean ok but it didn’t get body odor smell out very well.

i took a flyer on this thing and it seems to really work. weirdly the clothes have no smell at all. ive been using scent free detergent for years but this is really like smelling nothing. (and no, i dont have covid 19).

We decided to try this ball because my youngest son has dermatitis, sensitive skin and food allergies. Our clothing is cleaner, softer and has a fresh clean scent. I’m back to order two more balls right now!
